Susan Chambers Dance Company is unique in its commitment to performing all forms of theater dance, in addition to classical ballet. Among the many benefits provided by the Company are opportunities for the community to become interested in dance as a profession, as well as the opportunity to become an informed and appreciative audience. In turn, the Company is benefited through dance performances that are made available to the entire community, including those that would normally not be able to participate and enjoy this dance venue such as assisted living and senior citizen homes, underprivileged children and inner-city audiences.
The following is an overview of the six pillars of company membership:
Pre-Professional, Senior, Apprentice, Intermediate, Junior, and Mini-Company.
Requires several daily technique classes per week; Performers are at the highest level of training and expertise of that form of dance/musical theatre. Performers are technically and vocally challenged at the pre-professional level of training. Pre-Pro status requires your full commitment to SCDC beyond other programs offered at academic public and private institutions. Class attendance, rehearsals and performances will be required and commitments made to SCDC for the entire season from August to June. Pre-pro training is preparedness for the professional or college level companies and strict adherence to the requirements will be observed. The professional working dancer/performer will have guidelines to follow to remain an SCDC Company member. Equity and non-equity dancer/performers will show their equity cards/production status to follow the professional working guidelines. (Note: Participation in non-professional productions does not excuse the SCDC performer to exempt classes or rehearsals.)
Requires daily technique classes; Performers are at the Advanced/Intermediate level of training and are challenged to exceed by the end of the season. Senior status requires your full commitment to SCDC and observation of the classes required and rehearsals and performances are mandatory from August to June. Class attendance weekly following the policies will be observed by all Senior SCDC performers. Senior SCDC performers will be fully committed to SCDC beyond other programs offered at academic public or private institutions and will attend rehearsals, performances and classes that are mandatory for SCDC performers.
Requires weekly technique classes; Performers are in training for their abilities and ages of each company and observance of class requirements is mandatory. Performance, rehearsals and classes are mandatory from August to June. Required classes can be found in the policies of SCDC. Performers will attend the required classes, rehearsals and performances beyond other institutions private and public.
SCDC Mini Company is comprised of our brightest and youngest performers ages 5-8 from Chambers Performing Arts. They attend a minimum of two weekly classes and Saturday rehearsals. Minis are chosen by invitation only and perform with SCDC at Concert, in "The Trial of Mother Goose," and at various community functions. Mini Company is an excellent introduction to SCDC, and many Chambers Alumni began their journey with SCDC in Mini Company.
