Thank you for your interest in this field trip opportunity! The information here will assist you in identifying educational standards for "The Trial of Mother Goose". You will find information aligning Georgia Standards of Excellence to all state school districts and the AKS for Gwinnett County.
Below are a set of standards for your convenience. We have also included a number of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities that could be integrated into the classroom at various grade levels.
1. Nursery rhymes are a part of our history (Jack Be Nimble- describes life before electricity) and some of our first memories as children. Research shows that children who have memorized nursery rhymes become better readers because they develop early sensitivity to the sounds of the language. (Marie Clay). While nursery rhymes are pleasurable to hear and share, they also provide a building block for early literacy.
Children ages 0-9 benefit from the sounds, patterns, and vocabulary they may not hear in everyday conversation. Rhyming allows children to develop an ear for our language, highlighting the sounds and syllables in words.
2. At-risk students who have access to the arts in or out of school also tend to have better academic results, better workforce opportunities, and more civic engagement, according to a new NEA report, The Arts and Achievement in At-Risk Youth: Findings from Four Longitudinal Studies.
3.The Benefits of Theater is a blend of all arts:
Visual art is used for sets and costumes.
Music is used as part of the script or to set a mood.
Plays and scripts are written by some of the greatest literary minds of both past and present.
Cast members exhibit their talents through performing.
The list could go on and on. We hope you will join us for this interactive and exciting trip to the theater this year!
